Heartful Mind

Educating the Heart and Mind Together

Why:

As children transition into adolescence, both teachers and parents often observe a range of challenges that can be both perplexing and concerning.

This period, marked by rapid physical, emotional, and psychological changes, brings with it a host of issues that can impact a young person’s behavior, academic performance, and relationships.

One of the most common challenges is a noticeable shift in mood and behavior. They might struggle with newfound emotions and seem more sensitive to criticism, leading to conflicts at home and in the classroom.

Academically, motivation can decline as students face increased pressures and a more demanding curriculum. Teachers might notice a drop in grades or a lack of engagement in subjects that previously held the student’s interest.

This can be frustrating for both educators and parents, who may struggle to understand the root cause of this disengagement.

How:

The journey from teenage years to adulthood is like a rollercoaster ride of thoughts and emotions.

The educational focus tends to be heavily academic, emphasizing exams and grades, neglecting the rapid physical, emotional, and intellectual changes that adolescents undergo.

As we strive to provide the best education for our adolescents, it’s important to recognize that academic success is deeply intertwined with more than just intellectual development.

The well-being of our students—their ability to understand and manage emotions, build positive relationships, and make ethical decisions—is just as critical as their ability to excel in traditional subjects.

Grounded in the Social and Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEEL) framework, the program equips individuals with essential skills such as attention training, emotional regulation and ethical decision-making, vital for success in various life domains.
